Sample Alexander Technique Group Class by Luke Mess
ALEXANDER TECHNIQUE & THE REHEARSAL PROCESS
Introduction
In this class, we will explore how a character’s objective affects how an actor uses his or her body. It is crucial that during the rehearsal process and into performance an actor is open, free and aware of his or her choices. Actors will explore how individual elements of anatomy can affect the whole body. Using the principles of the Alexander Technique, the actor will develop awareness of the body in space and personal habits that can limit choices. We will explore application of the Alexander Technique in the rehearsal room, during an actor’s private preparation, and in performance.
This class consists of six one-hour group classes, in addition to one private lesson per student. Students will be expected to come prepared with two memorized monologues.
